“Versatile, luxurious and comfort without sacrificing handling, the new Captiva is developed to meet the needs of the modern day family,” he added.

Sporting the ‘Chevrolet face’ – Chevrolet’s new design DNA that is accentuated by the signature dual-port grille and larger, grained golden bowtie (the mark of 100 years of excellence in the automotive industry) – the new Captiva boasts a list of first-in-class new features for SUVs in its class.

The immediately noticeable front-end of the new Captiva, features a completely re-sculptured front bumper, a sharper bonnet, prism projector headlamps, foglamps and LED turn indicator signals on the side mirrors. All models are equipped with 17 inch alloy wheels, which will further improve handling in addition to enhanced aesthetics.

Some of the firsts found in the new Captiva include an electrically-operated parking brake that not only enhances ease of use, but further freeing up more useful storage space. Other features include a three-dimensional audio system or 3D Sound Staging and a multi-function, four-spoke steering wheel which incorporates controls for cruise control, audio and air-conditioning – the latter another first-in-class.

The new Captiva also receives updated powertrains, thanks to the new E85-capable 2.4L in-line four-cylinder ECOTEC gasoline engine featuring double overhead camshafts

(DOHC) with Double Continuously Variable Cam-Phasing (Double CVC) system which replaces the previous engine of the same capacity. The power of the new ECOTEC unit also provides more power compared to the previous engine, 100kW to 123kW and from 220Nm to 225 Nm.

The engine power is transferred to the driving wheels via, six-speed automatic transmission which features Driver Shift Control (DSC) – a function which allows the driver to have manual control over gear changes. The suspension of the new Captiva consists of independent Macpherson struts at the front and independent multi-link at the rear, developed to enhance driving performance and handling without sacrificing comfort. It also features ‘Hill Descent Control’ which helps the Captiva maintain a constant speed when descending steep slopes to maximize traction and control.

The new Captiva is available in five body colors – Auburn Brown, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Royal Gray, Tornado Red and Sterling Silver. Prices for the new Chevrolet Captiva is RM153,888 and is available at all Chevrolet showrooms nationwide.

The Ferrari FF Makes Its Malaysian Debut Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is coming to Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, August 16, 2011- The most eagerly- anticipated Ferrari FF made its Malaysian debut today in PJ and will be displayed in its showroom for the week. As Ferrari’s first four-seater, four -wheel drive car, the FF is uniquely powerful and versatile, and has aroused great interests since its international launch. There is another good news announced, that the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, one of the most popular and successful one-make series in the world, will come to Malaysia from September 30th until October 2nd . This year is the first time that the Asia Pacific region is included in its history, and Malaysia will be the fourth round after Zhuhai in June, and Shanghai in July and August. The racers will contest a five-race series with the new 458 Challenge car to win the final championship.

“This new Ferrari takes the Prancing Horse into new territory, matching the legendary performance, style and driving excitement expected of a Ferrari with new levels of ability thanks to its unique four wheel drive system and its spacious and flexible interior which makes it the most useable and versatile supercar built by Ferrari,” says Simon Inglefield, Head of Ferrari Asia Pacific Other Countries, “And we are very delighted to announce that we will now be hosting the first ever Challenge Series in Malaysia soon, The culture and passion for racing has always been an integral part of Ferrari’s one-make championship, which has been shared with many of our customers here in Asia Pacific.

The Ferrari FF is a four-seater that utterly changes the whole GT sports car concept, hailing nothing short of a revolution in the auto world. Even the most cursory glance at the FF’s sleek, Pininfarina-penned super model profile will tell you that.

Drive it - anywhere, any time, in any weather or road conditions – and you’ll know why it’s so radical. It may be a car that has elegance, beauty and art in its soul, but there’s much, much more to the FF than sophisticated allure. It was, in fact, designed specifically to tackle the toughest, most complex and ambitious of driving challenges. The kind of challenges that the most uncompromising and discerning drivers will want to set it. Drivers that demand their cars give of their all. Effortlessly. Regardless of weather or surface.

The FF will more than match anything that’s asked of it because it is quite simply the most versatile car ever produced by the pens, computers, monkey wrenches and milling machines of the Prancing Horse technicians, engineers, designers and mechanics.

The FF: a name, as we said, inspired by the car’s four generous, body-hugging seats and, more significantly, the new Prancing Horse-patented four-wheel drive system. Purists will be overjoyed to know that it is still the rear wheels that actually provide the power, with torque being transferred only to the front axle when required and even then intelligently and predicatively distributed to all four wheels. Yet another reason why this is the most versatile Ferrari ever built.

But take note: the FF is also the most exclusive GT on the market, the very pinnacle of achievement in the “extreme GT” segment, the most powerful four-seater in the world. It has it all: exceptional, class-topping performance that pushes its signature Ferrari thoroughbred DNA and driving pleasure to the utmost, regardless of weather or terrain. Even on snow, ice and dirt.

The FF also sets a new benchmark in terms of sheer innovation: it is the first four-wheel drive V12 with a rear-mounted electronic differential, the E-Diff.

The Ferrari-patented four-wheel drive system is unique of its kind and also integrated with the new generation F1-Trac traction control developed specifically for the track. The FF is also the first and only V12 in the world to sport the seven-speed dual-clutch F1 gearbox with 20% more power output and 25% lower fuel consumption. It offers four occupants superb in-car comfort with wraparound seats and absolutely unprecedented cabin and luggage space for a car in its category.

The FF’s architecture too ticks all the boxes with authentic sports car driving dynamics, braking and suspensions. It also boasts the best weight-power ratio ever achieved, thanks in part to the fact that its patented four-wheel drive system is just 50% the weight of a traditional version. Style-wise, the FF is sculptural yet streamlined: it has an innovative shooting brake shape, modern styling cues, and third millennium aerodynamic and conceptual solutions to underscore its sporty stance. It is also unique on several levels: for instance, the paints used for its livery were specifically designed for it and the leathers that adorn its interiors have been given an innovative treatment to enhance their natural beauty.

The FF is tailored to perfection to suit the exclusive style of its owner. It’s as much a car for day-to-day driving as it is for extraordinarily unique occasions. Everything aboard the FF is tailored specifically to the needs and tastes of its driver with a choice of six exclusive colours and the finest Frau aniline leathers specially treated to enhance their natural softness. The FF’s exceptional specification enhances in-car enjoyment for all four occupants. Features include a new rear-seat infotainment system with two screens for watching TV and DVD and a 1,280 Watt, 16-channel stereo system with Dolby Surround Sound.

FF, 458 Italia, Ferrari California and 599 GTB Fiorano today represent the complete and comprehensive range ever, offering a different kind of Ferrari for every different kind of Ferrarista.

Kuala Lumpur, 21 July 2011- NAZA Premira Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor for Aprilia bikes in Malaysia, launched two new models today in conjunction with the opening of Aprilia’s new flagship showroom in Kampung Baru.

NAZA Group of Companies Joint Group Executive Chairman, Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin launched the showroom and unveiled the Aprilia Tuono V4 APRC and Dorsoduro 1200, bringing the total number of Aprilia models available in Malaysia to eight models. Not only that, Malaysia is the first country in Asia to launch the Tuono V4 APRC.

The Tuono V4 APRC is the naked version of RSV4 Factory and is a much awaited model by big bike enthusiasts. The Tuono V4 comes with the Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) and has superior handling, thanks to the chassis which is identical to the world class RSV4 line-up. The Tuono V4 is a top choice among independent test riders against the likes of Ducati Streetfighter S, KTM Super Duke R and the Triumph Speed Triple. The 1000cc model comes with 167.3bhp at 11,500 rpm and 111.5 Nm at 9,500 rpm.

The Dorsoduro 1200 meanwhile is the ultimate choice for bikers who love the Motard category. The 1,200cc bike produces 130bhp (96.0 kW) at 8700 RPM and 115 Nm at 7200 rpm. The Dorsoduro also comes fitted with the Aprilia Traction Control (ATC) system for optimum safety.

The Aprilia flagship showroom in Kampung Baru joins other NAZA showrooms in the area such as NAZA World and Chevrolet 3S Centre. The Aprilia showroom is also a 3S Centre which offers performance parts replacement for its customers. NAZA Premira invested over RM200,000.00 for the service center and had bought proper equipment and tools to service the range of Aprilia bikes currently available in the country.

The service area has 8 bays to accommodate customers and ensure that they are immediately attended to. The mechanics have been professionally trained at the Aprilia Training Center in Italy and here in Malaysia.

The showroom also features a Championship Corner where two (2) exact replica of championship racing bikes are displayed. One of it is the RSV4 Factory which was used by Superbike World Championship (SBK) winner, Max Biaggi in 2010, while the other is the RS125R, a MotoGP bike.

The showroom will also have a merchandise store with a wide range of Aprilia racing apparel and casual wear. The store will be operational in August. The showroom will also have display and sales area for other bikes under the Piaggio Group which included the Piaggio, Vespa and Gilera brands.

NAZA Premira, a member of the NAZA Group of Companies, was awarded the distributorship for all 4 brands in May last year. The sales of Aprilia bikes started in December 2010 after it was officially launched during the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2010. A total of six models – RS125R, Shiver 750, Mana 850, Dorsoduro 750, RSV4R and the world famous SBK bike RSV4 Factory – were distributed to the market, each targeting a different segment.

Datuk Wira SM Faisal said, “When we decided to acquire the distributorship for the Aprilia bikes, we knew it would be a challenge as the brand was practically dead in Malaysia. In less than a year, I believe we have been successful in re-introducing the brand to Malaysians in whole and to superbike enthusiasts specifically. Up till June this year, more than 130 units of Aprilia bikes have been booked compared to 110 units which were sold by the previous distributor in a span of two years!”

Our secret lies in prioritizing the customers and competitively pricing our product against the Japanese bikes. With the opening of this flagship showroom, we now provide sheer comfort and luxury to all our customers. The showroom is conducive and easily accessible while our service center is manned by professionally trained mechanics who only have your safety in heart,” he added.

Datuk Wira SM Faisal also announced that customers will receive a free 3-year maintenance package (not including wear and tear) when they purchase an Aprilia bike. This is to encourage customers to follow the proper maintenance schedule to ensure that their bikes are roadworthy while providing riders with maximum performance.

The Aprilia flagship showroom is located at No. 147, Jalan Raja Muda Aziz, 50300 Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur and is open daily from 9am till 8pm. Should you have any inquiries, please feel free to drop by our showroom or contact Mr. Idon Pang, Head of Sales & Operations, NAZA Premira Sdn Bhd at pang@naza.com.my or at 016-2295404.

NAZA WORLD-TAYLOR’S SOLAR VEHICLE UNVEILED FOR SHELL ECO CHALLENGE RACE

RM65, 000 NAZA WORLD-TAYLOR’S SOLAR VEHICLE UNVEILED FOR SHELL ECO CHALLENGE RACE

First-year Taylor’s engineering st
udents take on the challenge of building an energy-efficient car
Of the challenges facing the human race in the 21st century, energy shortage and pollution often top the list. Taylor’s University and NAZA World did their part to address this issue when they
deployed their NAZA World Taylor’s Eco Team to design and build an extremely efficient solar vehicle to participate in the Shell Eco Marathon
Asia competition. This futuristic vehicle was designed and built by a five-member-team of first year chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering students from Taylor's University School of Engineering.

“NAZA is proud to support and encourage the aspirations of Malaysia’s y
outh. Our contribution in this endeavour is well worthwhile as it is in line with our hopes that one day our roads will have energy efficient vehicles that enable better conservation of our environment. We are always eager to play a role in integral projects such as this that provide the automotive industry with greener options for the future. On this effort, I wish the NAZA World Taylors’ Eco Team, semoga bejaya!” stated Datuk Wira SM Faisal, Joint Group Executive Chairman of NAZA Group of Companies.

Taylor’s Eco Team leader, Low Kean Peng, said that the team is the only team in the competition which consisted of enti
rely of first year students. “We are driven by a single dream which is to build cars that are incredibly efficient and have the potential to impact our world positively,” he said.

“We used state of the art equipment and software available at our labs to ensure that we built a car that is not only light and fuel efficient but also safe and comfortable. In designing this vehicle, we pushed the limits of what is possible with the aim of increasing the awareness of green technology and its potential,” he added.

Shell Eco Marathon Asia will be held for the second time in Malaysia
this year from 6th to 9th July in Sepang International Circuit. NAZA World-Taylor’s Eco Team is one of 121 teams from different universities taking place in this challenge which has two categories, urban 2
and prototype. The winning vehicle is the one that achieves the farthest distance using the least amount of energy.

“Our team opted to go for the prototype category as we wanted to test new design concepts,” said Wong Zhou Hong, the team’s chief designer. “We are very confident that our car is going to perform well as we ensured that our computer based design was verified using experimental techniques and tests,” Wong added.21-year-old Nur Fatinah binti Abd Aziz, the only female member of the team, is pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. She was responsible for sponsorship, material selection and safety. “I found working on this project to be an extremely satisfying experience as I managed to learn a lot especially while raising the funds needed to build our car,” she said.“We are really grateful to NAZA world for generously supporting our project,” Nur Fatinah added. The team has two drivers, Firnaaz Ahamed and Louis Chia Wai Kit. Pursuing their studies in Chemical and Electrical and Electronic Engineering respectively, they were also responsible for energy analysis and electrical system. “Although we weigh the lightest among our team members, I doubt that this was the only reason we were chosen to be the drivers,” said Firnaaz jokingly.Agreeing with his team member, Louis added that driver’s skills would be pivotal in winning the race, as the driver needs to be able to complement the car systems by being an integral part of them.

Built out of mild steel and fiberglass, the solar car design was inspired by the dolphin’s shape. The car uses a rear wheel drive and steering system.
Associate Professor Dr. Mushtak Al-Atabi, the team supervisor and the Dean of Taylor’s University School of Engineering, attributed the success of his students to the Project Based Learning approach that the school has adopted. “Project Based Learning at Taylor’s School of Engineering is developed to challenge multidisciplinary teams of students using real life projects to bring the best out of them. This way the students will develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills besides the technical skills making them highly sought after individuals by future employers,” Dr. Al-Atabi added.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Hassan Said, Taylor’s University Vice Chancellor and President, is very glad to see leading industry player Naza World endorsing the School of Engineering’s efforts. “As we continue to push the limits through the use of Project Based Learning, we truly appreciate industry players coming forward to support us as we pursue our journey to develop graduates who are highly sought after by top employers, graduates who will be able to contribute positively toward making Malaysia a high income nation,” he said.

Taylor’s University School of Engineering has the honour of being the only private institution in Malaysia to be a member of the prestigious CDIO initiative. The university also recently won the National Formula Varsity Race, in which a team of 7 first year students conceived, designed, built and raced the TRT racing car.

What to do if you Breakdown? Here’s a few tips to handle the breakdown process.

What to do if you Breakdown?

A breakdown is a motorist’s nightmare. The immediate response may tend to be annoyance at the inconvenience and potential cost, but there is a higher priority in ensuring the safety of yourself and your passengers.
Here’s a few tips to handle the breakdown process effectively and safely:

Be alert for warning signs – do respond to warning lights (do not assume that the light itself is broken!) and signs of trouble (eg loss of power). This may give you the opportunity to stop in a safe place, or even at home or a garage.
If the car stops suddenly on the road, immediately switch your hazard lights on and, if possible, place a warning triangle (see preparation below) 50 paces behind the car to warn other motorists. If it is dark, leave your sidelights on
Try to stop the car on the far left hand-side of the road or the hard shoulder (if available)

Stopping on a motorway
You should only stop on the motorway if there has been no possibility of exiting the motorway. Remember that the hard shoulder is for emergency use and is dangerous

Park the car on the hard shoulder where possible and exit the car from the left-hand door

Park the car with the wheels pointing left. If your car is struck, it will prevent the car from rejoining the motorway

If the vehicle stops in a lane, only cross the carriageway when it is safe to do so

Ensure all passengers move to a safe place behind the motorway barrier

If you do not have a mobile walk to an emergency telephone on your side of the road, do not attempt to cross the motorway

Stopping on other roads:
Put on a reflective jacket if you have one.

Do not stand between your car and oncoming traffic, this will obstruct the view of the lights
It is generally safer to leave the car and retreat from the road if possible (particularly if there is fast moving traffic). If you are alone, leave one door unlocked so that you can get back in the car quickly
If you stay inside the vehicle, lock all of the doors and do not get out if approached
If someone offers assistance, tell them the police or breakdown services are on the way.

Preparation
Being prepared for a breakdown can save a lot of hassle and significantly improve your safety. Here’s some of our favourites:
Keep an item of reflective clothing in the car to wear if it is dark.
Keep a road map in your car and generally try to stay aware of your approximate location. It could mean a quicker response!
If you have a mobile phone, ensure the battery is well charged before a trip. Keep some coins or a phonecard in the car in case you need to use a payphone
Carry a red warning triangle in the car to help alert other traffic if you breakdown
Keep a torch and gloves in the car. A torch will be invaluable in the dark and gloves will help with the cold and any messy work
Keep a rug or some warm clothes in the car, and ideally hot drinks in a flask and some high energy food
Check the car before long journeys, making sure you have enough oil, petrol, screen wash and water in the radiator. Checking your tyre pressure will also help improve fuel efficiency!
We hope that you stay safe and avoid breakdowns altogether!
